Tuition at Gateways is available individually and in small groups, depending on the subject and the learner's needs. We begin by exploring current understanding, confidence and any barriers to learning.
Sessions may address missed learning, strengthen particular skills or prepare for assessments.
Teachers explain concepts in manageable steps and adapt resources, pace and communication. We can discuss school topics and exam specifications so that support is relevant to the student's wider education.

A gentle start to early learning
For children at the beginning of primary education, we discuss their readiness, needs and the suitability of our setting before agreeing support. Early learning can focus on communication, listening, early literacy and number understanding through practical activities.
Families can tell us what their child enjoys and what makes learning difficult, helping us explore a suitable starting point.
Early primary support focuses on the skills that make the wider curriculum more accessible. Depending on the child's needs, sessions may include reading, writing, phonics and early maths.
We use practical resources, clear explanations and opportunities to revisit learning. Movement and breaks can be built into sessions. We work at a manageable pace so children have time to develop understanding and experience success.
As the primary curriculum becomes more demanding, some children benefit from extra time to consolidate their understanding. We can support reading comprehension, writing, spelling and maths, with teaching matched to the child's starting point.
Sessions help children practise skills, explore different methods and ask questions. Where confidence has fallen, we build achievable steps into the work and recognise progress along the way.
Upper primary tuition can strengthen English and maths, address gaps in learning and support the move towards secondary education. We adapt teaching to the child's current understanding and the areas they find most challenging.
Support may also include organisation, greater independence and confidence with unfamiliar tasks. We work with families to agree priorities, whether the focus is schoolwork, assessments or preparing for change.
SATs support focuses on the knowledge and skills a child needs, alongside familiarity with question styles. We can work on reading, grammar, punctuation, spelling and maths according to individual priorities.
Practice is balanced with explanation and feedback. We consider assessment anxiety and help children develop ways to approach a task, check their work and seek support when they are unsure.
Key Stage 3 tuition helps students strengthen their understanding before GCSE study. We offer support in English, maths and science, with other subjects discussed according to availability.
Students may need help with current topics, earlier gaps or the demands of secondary school. We break learning into clear steps and revisit key ideas. Sessions can also support study habits, organisation and confidence in working more independently.
We provide GCSE tuition in English, maths and science, with additional subjects discussed individually. Teaching is planned around the student's starting point, qualification and relevant exam specification.
Sessions may combine subject teaching, exam questions, revision planning and feedback. We explain how to approach different tasks and help students identify what to practise next. Where anxiety or interrupted education has affected learning, we agree priorities and work at a manageable pace.
Exam entry arrangements are discussed separately from tuition.
Our 11 plus tuition can support English, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning, according to the intended assessment. We explore the child's starting point and the areas where additional teaching or practice would help.
Sessions can include problem-solving, vocabulary, question familiarity and managing time. We keep families informed about progress so that preparation remains realistic and suited to the child.
Our holiday learning offer may include revision sessions, subject workshops and opportunities to revisit key skills. Sessions are planned around a clear focus, with time for explanation, practice and questions.
Dates, subjects, group sizes and fees are shared for each programme. Contact us to find out what is planned and whether a workshop would suit your child.
Evening tuition gives students time to work on subjects outside their usual school day. Individual or small group support can help with understanding, missed learning, revision and confidence.
We discuss the student's needs, subject and availability before recommending a session. Teaching is adapted to the learner, with consideration for tiredness, sensory needs and the demands of the school day.
